Egypt's Salafist al-Nour party has threatened to withdraw from the ongoing parliamentary elections over claims of electoral breaches, adding "the move would torpedo the legitimacy of the elections". Vice president of Salafist Call, Yasser Borhamy on Wednesday accused Ministry of Interior and the Higher Election Committee (HEC) of inaction despite complaints against electoral bribes in Ammreya constituency, Alexandria, Yum7 News reported Wednesday. "We have monitored 24 spots where voters stand in queues to receive electoral bribes," Borhamy said. Borhamy, head of the party's medical committee, added the withdraw would be scrutinized following the end of the run-off round on Wednesday, indicating the party would withdraw from the process as a whole or just from certain constituencies that witness electoral bribes. Asked why his party did not leave the elections over the same claims in the first phase of polls Oct. 18, he said they continued in the race to protect Egypt's interests as the country by no means needs a parliament.
