Active investigations by federal authorities in the United States into suspected ISISI operatives and other home-grown violent extremists now number 900. That figure is increasing. The details were revealed by FBI Director James Comey in a speech given to intelligence officials. The majority of the cases were connected to ISIS, but that the agencies were also investigating other home-grown violent extremism. USA Today reports although there has been much discussion about the rise of support for ISIS in the U.S., rarely is a specific number released regarding investigations. "If that becomes the new normal ... That would be hard to keep up," Comey said, commenting on the ability of the FBI to keep up with the caseload. Comey did say since July, the number of Americans trying to travel to Syria to join ISIS has declined. How that decline affects the domestic threat is unknown, however.
