The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Elaraby, held talks in New York with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories in light of the Israeli escalation, settlement activities as well as attacks and violations of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque. According to a statement issued by the General Secretariat of the League on Monday, the two sides exchanged views on the ongoing arrangements to hold the expanded ministerial meeting of the International Quartet Committee on Wednesday at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Arab side will participate in the meeting for the first time and will be represented by the foreign ministers of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League. The statement added that the talks also touched the latest developments in Syria, where Lavrov reviewed his country's position on the war against ISIS terrorist group, in addition to Russia's support to the governments of Syria and Iraq to defeat terrorism and maintain security and stability in the region.
