17 militants killed in Egypt
At least 17 militants were killed and 62 suspects arrested on Thursday as part of a massive operation launched by the Egyptian security forces in the restive North Sinai province, a military official said.
"The forces also defused 53 explosive devices, burnt down 42 huts and dens of the terrorists, destroyed 16 vehicles and 13 motorbikes without plates and ruined seven warehouses belonging to terrorist elements," Xinhua quoted Brigadier-General Mohamed Samir as saying.

ISIS claims killing of Egypt police general
Gunmen have shot dead a police general in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, the interior ministry said, in the latest attack claimed by Islamic State group jihadists.
Assailants in a car gunned down General Khaled Kamal Osman during an inspection of a police unit in the North Sinai provincial capital El-Arish late on Wednesday, the interior ministry said.
The gunmen fled after the police retaliated, it said in a statement.

Egypt's August exports drop to $1.433b
Egyptian exports, other than petrochemical products, dropped by 19.87 percent to reach LE11,005 billion (US$1,433 billion) in August 2015, compared to LE12,687 billion ($1,774 billion) during the same month in 2014, a government report has revealed.
According the report published on Thursday by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, the General Organization for Export and Import Control said total exports stood at LE95,051 billion ($12,591) by the end of August, a decline of 18.70 percent, from LE109,158 billion (US$15,488 billion) during the same period in 2014.
