Egyptian foreign ministry denounced on Thursday the terrorist attack carried out by al-Shabaab Islamist militia on a peacekeeping base of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). In an official statement, foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid extended the country's condolences to the families of AMISOM victims, stressing the Egyptian government's support for Somalia in its struggle against terrorism. Al Shabaab attacked the AMISOM peacekeeping base in the town of Janale, located in the southeastern Lower Shebelle province, using a car loaded with explosives. Dozens of African Union and Somali national army forces reportedly died in the attack, with more than 100 troops being unaccounted for.
