Egypt's Electricity Ministry adviser for nuclear power affairs, Ibrahim al-Asiri was discharged on Tuesday from his position due to his previous statements to media about the national nuclear project in Dabaa region, Al-Bawaba News reported. Asiri affirmed that he will continue to speak to the media about Dabaa project for producing electricity to inform Egyptian citizens about the importance of this project and the foreign attempts to interrupt this national project. Asiri served as a chief inspector for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and spent 47 years in the field of nuclear energy. Egypt seeks to build its first nuclear power plant to meet the escalating needs for energy in the country. The cost of the plant is expected to reach $5 billion with total production capacity estimated to 2,400 megawatts, according to Asiri. On the other hand, the Ministry of Electricity announced Wednesday the appointment of Dr. Hani Abdul Rahman Khadr as a spokesman for Egyptian nuclear program, following the rumors circulated over Dabaa nuclear project.
