Egyptian government discusses the proposal of fugitive tycoon Hussein Salem, to give up a part of his wealth to the state in a bid to solve his dispute with financial authorities, Al Bawaba news reported on Wednesday. Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab promised to consider Salem's proposal during last cabinet meeting, upon a request from Minister of Justice Ahmed el-Zend. Salem had proposed to give up EGP 5bn in assets and EGP 200m in cash, in return for dropping all charges against him, since he is accused of corruption and taking advantage of his close relation with the family of ousted president Hosni Mubarak to seize lands owned by the state in illegal way. Salem has fled to Spain following the overthrow of Mubarak's regime in 2011 uprising.
