Jihadi sources revealed Sunday in a statement to Al-Bawaba News that the beheading of Croatian hostage Tomislav Salopek by Wilayat Sinai has led several leaders to defect from the terrorist group. The sources who spoke to Al-Bawaba on condition of anonymity, said that the defected leaders had objections on the timing of the beheading of Salopek, as they wanted to postpone the beheading and target policemen and army personnel across the country, instead. However, Wilayat Sinai leaders who approved the beheading explained that such move would turn the Egyptian citizens' joy of the inauguration of the new Suez Canal into sadness, the sources added. Meanwhile, some of the defected leaders opted to join Al-Nusra Front in Syria, while the others chose to act as an independent jihadi group, the sources pointed out.
