Libyan air forces carried out Wednesday a series of air strikes against bastions of Islamic State (IS) militants in the eastern city of Derna, leaving 20 elements killed, Al Arabiya News Channel reported. Meanwhile, clashes broke out in Derna after IS militants killed a leader in the Majlis al-Shura Islamist group as the latter rejected to swear allegiance to ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, locals told Reuters. IS militias captured large swathes of Libya since the ousting of the former president Muammar Qaddafi in 2011. Majlis al-Shura later declared jihad (holy war) against ISIS. Observers expect the conflict to have wider impacts on the future of the war-torn Libya.
