Egypt's Foreign Ministry has been following media reports about three Egyptian fishing boats seized by Sudanese naval forces near Sudan's coast, spokesperson stated Friday. Ambassador Badr Abdelatty mentioned that the three boats, carrying 108 Egyptian fishermen and sailors, were fishing on Sudanese regional waters when the Sudanese navy opened fire on them. No injuries have been reported. Abdelatty asserted that the Egyptian ambassador to Khartoum was in contact with the Sudanese Foreign Ministry to facilitate the fishermen's release, adding that Egypt's consultant at Port Sudan had called local officials to guarantee their safety.
