Egypt's Prime Minister, Ibrahim Mahlab met on Tuesday the chairman of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano in Cairo to discuss boosting cooperation with the organization and other regional issues with regard to the activities of IAEA. Hossam Gawish, spokesperson for Egypt's cabinet said Mahlab has stressed on the importance of AL Dabaa nuclear plant for the Egyptians, pointing out that the government seeks cooperation with IAEA to ensure the application of safety procedures. Mahlab discussed the necessity of vacating the Middle East of atomic weapons, adding that the weapons of mass destruction do not only pose a threat to the region but rather to the entire human kind, Gawish stated. Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has also met with Amano, alongside Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Muhammad Shakir, to discuss the existing relationships between Egypt and the agency in various fields, including possible technical aid to Egypt for peaceful use of the atomic energy, spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry said. For his part, Amano highlighted the good relationships with Egypt over the past decades in fields of developing human resources, building capabilities and organizing special workshops about nuclear technology.
