Egypt strongly condemned the despicable and appalling beheading of the Japanese journalist Kenji Goto by the Islamic State militants, according to the foreign ministry's statement on Sunday. "We express our sincere condolences to the victim's family, and the government and people of Japan," Egypt's foreign ministry spokesperson Badr Abdel Atty stated. Abdel Atty stressed that the international community should unite its efforts to combat the threat of terrorism across the world. Goto went to Syria in October 2014 to cover the suffering of civilians in the war zones, before he was captured by the Islamic state militants. IS released a video on Saturday that shows the beheading of the Japanese hostage by a masked Islamic State militant.
