The LuxorEgyptian and European Film Festival closed Saturday at Karnak Temple without celebrations out of respect for the Egyptian army casualties who died Thursday during several terrorist attacks in Arish, North Sinai. During the closing ceremony, Journalist and Festival's board member, Gamal Zayda urged all attendees to stand up for a minute of silence. Late scriptwriter, Fayez Ghali and French director, Yves Boisset, who headed the official competition jury, were honored during the ceremony. Russian film "Leviathan" received the Golden Djed award for feature films, the Georgian film "Corn Island" won the Silver Djed while the British film "Sixteen" earned the Bronze Djed. In the short films competition, "The aftermath of the inauguration of the public toilet at kilometer 375" won the golden Djed and the German film "The chicken" won the silver award. Egyptian actor, Nour Al Sherif received a special mention for his role in "Betawqeet Al-Kahera" (Cairo's Time), the only Egyptian movie to compete in the festival's feature films competition. The German film "Stations of the cross" received a special certificate from the Jury. LEEFF aims at promoting cultural awareness and exchange between Egypt and Europe, as well as supporting and promoting the return of tourism in Luxor.
