The Chairman of Egypt's holding company for Natural Gas, Khaled Abdel Badee, said Saturday that Egypt had accepted four international companies' bids to provide Egypt with 500 million cubic meters of gas, worth USD 2.2 billion, to be delivered starting March. Abdel Badee added that the company reviewed the offers 90 days before the deadline, as per official request by the government in order to provide power stations with enough gas to avoid any power outages during summer. Egypt's oil production has decreased in recent years, following the January 25, 2011 Revolution, with production in 2013 averaging 714,000 BCM, down from some 750,000 BCM in previous years; its natural gas output in 2013 was 56.1 BCM, down from a high of 62.7 BCM in 2009, according to British Petroleum (BP).
