A Qatari Diwan envoy visited Egyptian-Qatari cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi in Doha Sunday to reassure him that all his privileges in Qatar are reserved in spite of the late reconciliation attempts with Egypt. Qaradawi, chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, is wanted by the Interpol for multiple charges, all levied by the Egyptian government, including incitement and assistance to commit intentional murder and helping prisoners to escape. Qatar pledged itself to protect Qaradawi, asserting that it will not extradite him to the Interpol, though, the Diwan envoy emphasized banning the sheikh to deliver religious speeches in mosques or talk to any media channels especially Al-Jazeera so as not to enrage Saudi Arabia, UAE and Egypt. A top Qatari envoy has visited Egypt on Saturday as part of Saudi-brokered reconciliation that was hailed by Riyadh as the opening of "a new page" between the two Arab states. The initiative aims to release tensions between the two Arab countries caused by Doha's support for Islamist groups, including the Muslim Brotherhood. The tensions has been escalated after the ousting of former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi and the competition between Qatar and Saudi Arabia for influence among Syrian rebel groups, AP reported.
