Published in Al-Ahram Weekly on 30 - 09 - 2010

EL-GOUNA will host the second PSA super series 2010 event in Egypt from 20 to 24 October. Altogether, 32 of the world's top ranked squash players, including Egypt's world champions Rami Ashour, Amr Shabana and Karim Darwish, ranked the world's N0 1, 3 and 4 respectively, will be taking part in the tournament whose prize money boasts $142,500.
The 2010 El-Gouna International Squash Open is held under the auspices of Hassan Sakr, head of the National Sports Council. The event is organised by Amr Mansi, an accomplished squash player, and is sponsored by Orascom Development and the Arab African Bank.
The qualifying and the first round matches will be played in Alexandria's Sporting Club from 16 to 18 October while the advanced stages will be played in El-Gouna from 20 to 24 October.
"As a passionate squash player, I couldn't be more excited about organising one of the world's biggest squash tournaments of the year," said Amr Mansi, the tournament director. "Having El-Gouna as the venue is also a great opportunity to showcase one of Egypt's most picturesque and self-sustained destinations. I hope it will mark the beginning of several similar tournaments to come."
"We are delighted that El-Gouna is hosting this internationally recognised event", said Omar El-Halabi, vice- president of marketing for Orascom Development. "The event reinforces El-Gouna's positioning in relation to Orascom Development as a company that goes beyond development to creating healthy living communities."
El-Gouna, which started up more than 20 years ago, is Orascom Development's flagship resort. The town is built on 10km of secluded coastline spread across islands and lagoons and is the only mature fully fledged town on the Red Sea Riviera. Being home to 25,000 residents, the year-round sunshine destination boasts world class amenities including an array of real estate options, 14 hotels, 100 bars and restaurants, marinas, an 18-hole golf course and a variety of retail spa and fitness facilities.
El-Gouna also presents award winning architecture and the first hotels in Egypt to be awarded the Green Star Hotel Certification.
In 2010, El-Gouna hosted the second International Fishing Competition, the third International Kite Jamboree and Egypt's Rally Cup
