Three Egyptian teams qualified for the round of 16 in the two biggest African club football championships, Ahmed Morsy reports Title holders Ahli, who aim to win a seventh Champions League title, easily went to the round of 16 in the CAF Champions league while Haras Al-Hedoud and Enppi advanced to the same round in the CAF Confederation Cup. Defending champions Ahli eased into the last 16 after Amado Flavio's first-half goal gave them a 1-0 away victory over Tanzanian side Young Africans on Saturday. The Red Devils advanced with a comfortable 4-0 aggregate win, having crushed Yanga 3-0 in Cairo Stadium three weeks ago. Ahli needed just five minutes to ensure their progress to the next round via a goal from Angolan striker Flavio. A Young Africans defender dithered to clear the ball from his own box to allow Mohamed Abu Treika to steal possession and feed Flavio, who caught out the advancing keeper with a low right-footed shot. Classy playmaker Abu Treika thought he had doubled Ahli's lead midway through the first half when he converted Gilberto's cross from close range but his effort was ruled offside. Young Africans tried their luck from distance more than once but their tame shots did not bother Ahli keeper Ramzi Saleh. Neither side was able to create any goal scoring opportunities in a dull second half as Ahli easily booked a last-16 berth. Ahli midfielder Ahmed Hassan missed the game due to injury. The former Anderlecht man sustained an ankle injury during Egypt's 1-1 draw with Zambia in a World Cup qualifier. Ahli, who aspire to defend their title this year, will face Kano Pillars in the round of 16 and the first-leg is scheduled to be on 17, 18 or 19 April. The Nigerian club advanced after overcoming Senegal's Douanes on the away goal rule following a 1- 1 aggregate draw. Ahli assistant coach Hossam El-Badri said experience made the difference in his side's victory over Young Africans. "The experience of my players helped them control the game," El-Badri said. "This was evident in our neatly-worked counter attacks which threatened Young Africans more than once. "We scored a legitimate goal from one of those attacks but I don't know why the referee disallowed it." In other matches, last year's runners-up Coton Sport Garoua of Cameroon are also through after beating Mangasport in Gabon 3-2 in the second leg to make it 5-3 on aggregate. Kano Pillars were held to a goalless draw by visitors AS Douanes of Senegal, the Nigerians advancing on the away goals rule after a 1-1 draw in the first leg. Former African champions FAR Rabat of Morocco were knocked out by Heartland after a 1-1 draw in the second leg to give the Nigerians a 4-2 aggregate victory. Mohamed Madihi gave the Moroccans hope with a goal in the 37th minute but Signs Chibambo put the tie beyond doubt as he found the net in the 67th minute. Another former African champion JS Kabylie of Algeria also crashed out as they lost in Libya 1-0 to Al Ahly Tripoli. Omar Dawood's 39th-minute goal completed a 3-1 victory aggregate win for the Libyan side. Two-time winners Tout Puissant Mazembe of DR Congo won 2-1 in Angola over Petro Atletico. The Congolese side won 5-1 on aggregate. Sudan's Al Merreikh eased past visitors Al Ittihad of Libya 3-0 to complete a 4-1 aggregate win. Zambia's Zesco United beat visiting Africa Sports from the Ivory Coast 2-0, the same score on aggregate. Tunisia's Etoile du Sahel drew 0-0 in Algeria with ASO Chlef to win 2-1 on aggregate. The 2007 winners advance thanks to their 2-1 victory in the first leg in Sousse three weeks ago. Egypt's Enppi reached the CAF Confederation Cup round of 16 after beating Zimbabwe's Caps United 2-1 on Friday, following a goalless first leg. Adel Mustafa put the Petroleum side ahead after heading home Ahmed El-Mohamedi's cross from the right flank on 26 minutes. The Egyptian side's slender lead was cancelled out when Limited Chikafa scored for the visitors with a spectacular overhead kick 10 minutes after the hour mark. ENPPI took the lead again eight minutes later when Ahmed Abdel-Zaher, who was introduced as a second-half substitute, made an instant impact and headed another inch-prefect cross whipped in by in-form winger El-Mohamedi. Haras Al-Hedoud squeezed past APR of Rwanda after beating them 2-0 on aggregate. After the first-leg's 0-0 draw in Rwanda, Ahmed Eid Abdel-Malek scored twice in each half to send A-Hedoud through to round 16. The Egyptian international's first was hit right before the half- time whistle, whereas Al-Hedoud's second was added seven minutes from time. Al-Hedoud are scheduled to face El Gouafel Gafsa of Tunisia and Enppi play Red Arrows of Zambia. The first-leg is due on 17, 18 or 19 April.
