Doaa El-Bey reports on the National Wakeboarding and Water-skiing Competition held last weekend in Marina, on the North coast The performance of the participants in the the National Wakeboarding and Water-skiing Competition added more magnificence to the serene and beautiful lake, the sand and the nice weather in Marina, on the North coast. The championship started with the dainty performance of the Under-10 event where eight participants, who all showed great confidence and genuine love to the game, took part in the event. It was followed by the Under-17, but this time it saw ten participants, whose performance reflected weeks of diligent training and a will to achieve. The two age groups were required to perform moves like the 180 and 360-degree spins on the water and air grabs. Fares Megahed, Abdallah Hadi Gabr and Ibrahim El-Demerdash won the first three positions respectively in U-10 while Amr Shiha, Yousef Megahed and David Habashi were placed in the top three positions in the U-17 competition. Then, the very special and exciting event was held, the Open Category which sees competitors above 17 years old taking part. The participants in that category are required to perform the most complex tricks like big air jumps with grabs, flips and spins, front, back and backside rolls. The more the Egyptian participants excel and develop in these routines, the more Egypt's ranking rises in the world classification of Wakeboard. Adam El-Shayeb, Ali Mohamed Ali and Abdel Rahman Bakri won the first three positions. The day was culminated by another thrilling competition, the Slalom, which involves the use of very thin ski boards, and the concept to rotate around six buoys with fastest speed and shortest length of the rope. Karim Hanafi, Sherif Abdel Fattah and Amr El-Beheiri got the first three positions. This National Competition came a week after another U-14 qualifying competition was held from which the top three winners are scheduled to travel to Italy for a four-day training camp in preparation to take part in the International Topline Championship in Omega in early September. The one-day competitions witnessed a high spectator turn-out. The spectators not only supported the athletes and enjoyed their artistic and professional world-class level performances, but also enjoyed the delicious burgers and waffles stuffed with various sauces and toppings of one's choice which added more fun to the day.
