Heliopolis girls let it flow
splash dash of Heliopolis water sports

To the beat of Western and Oriental music, synchronised swimmers from Heliopolis Club put it all together to come in first in the club's annual international swimming tournament.
In water polo, where the finesse of synchro swimming is replaced by brute battles,
Poland
edged out Heliopolis A on goal difference for the gold medal after the two had finished level on points.
Under a new Russian coach, the Heliopolis girls made every twist and split count as they took first place overall.
Hungary
came second, England third and
Belgium
fourth. The Russian duo won the gold, followed by Heliopolis girls Rozy Nabil and Aya Osama, members of the national team. The Hungarian duo finished third.
In the solo event, Russia's Natalia Zlobina came first, followed by Nabil. The bronze went to
Hungary
's Anna Okros.
Gezira won the bronze in water polo while Maadi,
Austria
and Heliopolis B took fourth to sixth respectively.
"More teams were expected to take part in the event but some withdrew because of the situation," said Haroun Touny, head of the organising committee, referring to the 11 September terror attacks in the
United States
and the subsequent US attack on
Afghanistan
. "However, we insisted we should stage the event. We saw similar things like the Gulf war and the 1992 earthquake in
Egypt
. The tournament is an annual event and it should be held whatever the situation," Touny said.
As is normally the case, synchronised swimming attracted a high spectator turn-out. The girls took part in three disciplines; team, duet and solo. And as the girls moved in tune with water, those watching couldn't help but whirl a little themselves.
