Egypt's Rami Ashour rewrote history when he was crowned world squash junior champion for the second year in a row, writes Inas Mazhar Egyptian Rami Ashour became the first man ever to win two consecutive world junior squash titles, defeating fellow countryman Omar Mossad in straight games. The all-Egypt final was a display of power squash by Ashour who showed his class with some killer shots that simply shut Mossad out of the match. Ashour beat Mossad 9-1, 9- 3 and 9-1. The final, held in Palmerston North New Zealand, saw a high spectator turnout at the 1,300 seat-Arena Manawatu stadium and played on a full glass championship court. The tournament saw the complete dominance of Egyptians as they were three of the four semi-finalists. In addition to Ashour and Mosaad, Tarek Mo'men made it to the last four before losing to the eventual winner Ashour 3-1 (7-9, 9-3, 9-1 and 9-4 ) in a game that took 58 minutes. Mosaad had reached the final by beating Pakistan's Aamir Atlas Khan 9-1, 9-5 and 9- 7 in 46 minutes. Three other finals were also played in the individual competition with Australian Zac Alexander defeating American Mart Froot 5-9 9-5 9-0 10-9 in the Plate final, Chris Tasker Grindly of England went down 9-6 2-9 2-9 1-9 to Omar Tarek of Egypt in the Classic Plate, and New Zealand's Cameron Jamieson lost in straight games 9-4 9-6 9-7 to Chris O'Kane of Ireland. The teams competition started on Sunday. Eighteen teams divided into four pools are competing for the world title. Egypt was placed in pool A together with Finland, The Netherlands, Japan, Finland and Hong Kong. The top four seeds dominated play in the men's teams competition with Egypt and Pakistan both winning three matches 3/0. Egypt began its debut by beating Hong Kong. Rami Ashour beat Max Lee 9-5 9-1 9-3, Tarek Mo'men downed Leo Au 9-1 9-3 9-6, while Mohamed Ali Anwar Reda overpowered Alan Tsang 9-1 9-0 9-0. It took the pharaohs only 39 minutes to beat the Japanese 3-0. Runners-up of the individual competition Omar Mosaad beat Yuuta Fukui 9-0 9-4 9-3 in 19 minutes. Tarek Mo'men beat Bumpei Kawano 9-0 9-0 9-0 in just 11 minutes while Mohamed Ali Anwar Reda outclassed Tatsuya Shinkubo 9-0 9-0 9-0 in nine minutes. In the third match, Egypt shut out Finland, also 3-0. Omar Mosaad beat Pyry Poikolainen 9-2 9-4 9-0 in 19 mins, Tarek Mo'men beat Karri Salonen 9-0 9-4 9-0 in 15 mins and Mohamed Ali Anwar Reda beat Petteri Siren 9-0 9-0 9-1 in 13 minutes. Egypt was scheduled to play the last game in the preliminaries against The Netherlands.
