Evidently the result of negligence, the fire that partly destroyed Paris' Notre Dame Cathedral early on Monday evening has prompted wide-ranging distress across the world. The very symbol of France, the nearly 700-year-old architectural marvel houses some of Europe's most priceless art — most of which has thankfully been rescued — and is universally regarded as a charged space and a centre of Catholicism. Millions have already been pledged towards the building's restoration.
