Al Waleed Hall, Room P071 AUC New Cairo Thurs 28, 10am: The opening session of a symposium, titled, “Overcoming Divides and Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Supporting the Inclusion of People with Disabilities and Vulnerable Groups,” celebrating UNESCO's international day for universal access to information and the closing of the regional ICT accessibility week. The event is organized by AUC's Graduate School of Education in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The opening session will include keynote speeches as well as an interactive panel discussion by diverse stakeholders' groups involved in supporting the implementation of the SDGs in Egypt. Speakers include Yasser El Kady, minister of communication and information technology; Tarek Shawki, minister of education and technical education; Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, minister of higher education and scientific research; Ashraf Maraai, secretary general, National Council of Disability Affairs; Ted Purinton, dean of the Graduate School of Education, AUC and president of AUC Francis Ricciardone.

Thurs 28,10am: “Speak Out: Your Gate to Hope,” a seminar about success stories from Africa, in cooperation with the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency; and the Psycho-Social Services and Training Institute in Cairo (PSTIC)/ Terre des Hommes. Sat 30, 3pm: “African League of Young Masters (ALYM)” is held under the umbrella of the Youth and Environment Programme. It is mainly directed to African students studying in Alexandria University and aims to open channels of communication between those African students and their Egyptian peers through weekly meetings and other activities in which they share and exchange knowledge and experience. ALYM also aims to strengthen the Egyptian-African relations on the long-run through producing future ambassadors for Egypt in different African countries. Sat 30, 4pm: “Knowledge Café”, a lecture held as part of the Youth and Environment Programme, the event will discuss different scientific topics. Sat 30, 5pm: Youth for Environmental Sustainability and Better Understanding (YESBU) a programme launched in 2002, and organized by the BA Special Advisors targeting young people from 13 to 17 years old. It aims to raise environmental awareness among youth and provides them with e-learning tools. Sat 30- Sun1: “Techne Summit 2017,” an annual international entrepreneurship and technology event that acts as a platform by including the main global players in the technology industry. Sun1, Mon 2, 4pm: “Drawing Workshop,” a drawing workshop for young men and women. By the end of the workshop, the student should be able to begin implementing what they have learned and to have acquired a professional and specialized artistic taste. It will be given by Dr. Mahmoud Farid, professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts Graphics Department, Helwan University.
