On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the CCDC and the graduation of its first generation of full-time students, “5 ra2s” is a festival which will introduce Cairene audience to contemporary dance like never before, through two days of free classes, improvised pieces, screenings of dance-related films and more.
For one week, 13-19 February, in different venues throughout Cairo, special events and celebrities will help shed a new light on the activities of the only place in Egypt, the Arab World and Africa that offers a full-time professional contemporary dance school, while extending the quality of this teaching to classes, workshops and courses open to wider audiences.
Wed 15, 6pm: This is the most festive moment of the week, with famous downtown club Zigzag welcoming a party like no other! To put the audience in the mood for dance, some of CCDC's teachers and students will present short performances of Poi spinning and Hip Hop, while music will be provided by the young DJ duo NNR.
To give everyone a chance to dance, CCDC will open its doors on Friday 17 February and Saturday 18 February for a free trial of every class provided by the center. From Hip Hop to Ballet, through Yoga, Taiji, and of course Contemporary Dance, adults and children of all ages, social backgrounds and physical conditions are invited to try out one of the various disciplines taught at CCDC. Among them, some interesting additions: “Yoga for kids”, “Creative movement for people with zero dance experience”, and “Photography for contemporary dance.”

Sat 11, 10.30pm: Al Dore Al Awal is one of the first Egyptian bands to deliver an original mixture of jazz and Arabic tunes and melodies.
Sun 12, 10.30pm: Singer and guitarist Danny Malak performs the best pop and rock hits with a soft acoustic spin. Then Hassan Ramzy's soulful voice and melodious songs carry the rest of this rich night.
Mon 13, 10pm: Jimmy Gamal Adel will play his great tech-house beats.
Tues 14, 10.30pm: Singer Hend Al-Rawy creates fusions using her upbringing within traditional Egyptian folk and exposure to modern Western sounds, be it electronic or rock music. She joined the French band Orange Blossom a few years back and toured all over Europe, offering their loyal fans a unique blend of folk music mixed with electronic sounds. Now she is back in Egypt and has formed her very own band! This new formation will be playing original folk-rock fusion songs as well as some songs from Orange Blossom this Tuesday.
