Today, Al-Ahram is hosting the Egypt-China Economic Cooperation Forum, which will bring together 60 Chinese businessmen from various sectors with Egyptian businessmen and officials to look into mutual investment opportunities. Under the title of “One Belt and One Road” Egypt-China Business Dialogue, the meeting will give Chinese businessmen an overview of the opportunities Egypt offers in the fields of industry, agriculture, tourism and renewable energy. It will also be an opportunity for matchmaking between businessmen from the two countries.
Wu Baocai, vice-president of the China Economic Cooperation Centre, Sui Zhengjiang, vice-mayor of Beijing, and Song Aiguo, the ambassador of China in Egypt, are among the main speakers. From the Egyptian side, Essam Sharaf, former prime minister, Hisham Al-Demeiri, head of the Tourism Development Authority and Mohamed Al-Sobki, chairman of the Egyptian New and Renewable Energy Authority and Al-Ahram Organisation chairman Ahmed Al-Naggar, will attend.
Al-Ahram Press Organisation, is set to establish an LE1.25 billion paper plant in Al-Beheira north of Cairo in partnership with a leading Chinese paper company. The factory, which is expected to produce 300,000 tons of paper pulp and 100,000 tons of paper a year, will manufacture paper from rice straw. It is estimated that the plant will save around $1 billion of hard currency used to import paper.
