THE DUTCH Embassy tomorrow holds its fifth annual Orange Bike Day, reports Inas Mazhar. This year's event focuses on sustainability and sustainable business, and goes with the slogan: Orange is the new Green. The Netherlands is known worldwide as a pioneer in the integration of cycling as a low-cost alternative in urban transport, so reducing car traffic and pollution within cities. By organising this cycling event, the embassy continues its efforts to promote the potential of bicycles as a clean, healthy and efficient alternative means of transportation in urban environments. The embassy started Orange Bike Day in Egypt in 2012 with around 400 participants. Since then it has been held annually, with participation growing every year. More than 3,000 cyclists participated in Orange Bike Day 2015. The event is organised with the support of Egypt's Global Biking Initiative, Abou El Goukh and other Dutch companies as main sponsors. With this event, the embassy of the Netherlands aims to promote bicycles as efficient and a ‘green' means of transportation in urban environments, reducing car traffic and pollution. The ride will start at 8.30am sharp. The starting point is the Fish Garden in Zamalek (Aquarium Grotto Garden), where participants will return around 9.30am and enjoy drinks and snacks offered by official sponsors. Tickets are required to participate in the event. As always, participants are recommended to come dressed in orange.
