Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC) 3 Abul-Fida St,2nd floor, Zamalek, Tel 2795 3705/ 2737 1995 "Gandhi through Eyes of Egyptian Cartoonists", exhibition is part of an extensive collaboration between the Embassy of India and the Egyptian Caricature Society. It presents a captivating selection of caricatures on Mahatma Gandhi by prominent artists of the Egyptian Caricature Society, including among othersAdham Lotfi, Emad Abdel Makksoud, Mr. Fawzi Moursi, Mohamed Effat, Taha Hussien, Saad Al Saadawi, Khadr Hassan, Khaled Al Merssafi. In their works, the artists used a variety of techniques – drawing in pencil, chalk, pen, ink, and even experimenting with conceptual photography – and demonstrate Gandhi's depth through their pictorial, thoughtful and at times satirical approaches (4-15 October).
Misr 4A Ibn Zankai St, from Hassan Sabri, Zamalek, Tel 2735 0604 "The Last of Domestic Rituals", paintings by Sudanese artist Salah Al-Mur. Sudanese culture is the major theme in Salah El-Mur's artistic experiment. He also seeks inspiration from the faces of people and warm family relationships, friends and songs and folklore, and, of course, the country's green fields and mighty river, the Nile (11October-19 November). The exhibition will be hosted by Mashrabia and Misr galleries.
The Photographic Gallery The American University in Cairo, New Cairo Campus, Abdul Latif Jameel Hall, Plaza Level, Tel 2615 3318 "Egypt Stereoviews: Underwood & Underwood", exhibition is organised by the gallery in cooperation with the AUC Rare Books and Special Collections Library. Stereoview (also called stereoscope or stereograph) is one of many techniques for creating or enhancing the illusion of three-dimensional depth from given two-dimensional images when viewed with stereoviewers. Underwood & Underwood publishing company was one of the leading companies in stereoviews. They produced several editions on Egypt. The collection on display documents the 19th century Egyptian culture and the history of travel in the Middle East. The wide geographic scope of its subjects spanning along the Nile River, Cairo, the Suez Canal towns, the Egyptian deserts present a thorough visual representation of Egypt. This exhibition is a unique interactive experience where the viewer has the opportunity to see these historical images in 3D through a stereoviewer box and anaglyph eyeglasses (11 October-12 November).
