♣ The sixth round of the Cairo International Women's Film Festival (16-22 November), the first festival for women's films held annually in the Arab world since in 2008, continues to present the best films made by women. Inaugurated by the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Egypt Gerard Steeghs, the festival — presided over by Amal Ramsis — achieved a wide-ranging success as it became the most acclaimed international women's film festival gathering films from all around the world with a number of activities on the fringe, like video workshops, lectures and roundtable discussions. This year the festival screened Al-Khoroug ila Al-Nahar (Coming Forth by Day), directed by Hala Lotfi.
