I was especially saddened by the untimely passing of Abdel-Moneim Kamel, Egypt's most distinguished choreographer. The talented dancer was an artist par excellence. Kamel performed in leading roles in countless ballet productions. The inauguration of the new Cairo Opera House in 1988 offered him numerous opportunities. As head of the Cairo Opera ballet company Kamel's renditions of Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Hamlet among others were memorable. I illustrated Kamel dancing, resplendent in his passionate approach to his art.
