Once in power…
Sir— Given the history of the region, did anyone really expect the “Arab Spring” to germinate into democracy? As soon as any Arab group gains political power, even if by the vote, they do not let it go easily. It has been that way for centuries and is not going to change anytime soon just because we wish it would. The exact same thing happened in Iran when the shah was deposed and the Ayatollah stepped in. That was decades ago and they are still in power.

Where he's coming from
Sir— The Egyptian electorate voted for Morsi even though they knew he was all Muslim Brotherhood, nothing but Muslim Brotherhood and could not have gained the presidency unless he had convinced them he was one of them. Now he walks a tightrope — the one that the Muslim Brotherhood put him on. They actually voted for somebody who would destroy democracy. They knew this when they elected him.

Lagging behind
Sir— The only people left who believe anything Morsi says about being a president from a democratic nation is our current administration _ lagging about six months in back of the reality of it all. Egypt has voted itself back into perdition and slavery. Sad, however, a reality.

Same people
Sir— Crazy how the Muslim Brotherhood can assassinate former Egyptian president Anwar Al-Sadat in 1981, then take over power in 2012 by “democratic” vote. How can you put into power the group that killed your president?

Too strong to sink
Sir— Morsi will not go down. He has the Muslim Brotherhood behind him. They'll be on the streets fighting the opposition. All the blood spilled to topple Mubarak and we walk into a much worse situation.

Hamas to stay
Sir— Hamas will remain in charge of the Strip after the IDF gets tired of wasting missiles because, simply, there is no military solution to this conflict. As long as Israel keeps Gaza's 1.5m people caged and humiliated and as long as Israel occupies Palestine there will be violence between oppressor and oppressed. No “thorough job” will change that.

Bomb shelters
Sir— While Palestinians have very genuine grievances against Israel, they have made the mistake of choosing extremism to solve their issues by choosing Hamas to lead them in Gaza. Hamas has spent millions of dollars on all its rockets it is firing at Israel but has spent virtually nothing on providing its citizens with bomb shelters. Just one more point that shows just how much they care about civilian lives.

Shameless excuse
Sir— Amazing how the trolls justify the exponential killing of Palestinian citizens and use the excuse of “oh well, they asked for it”. Shame on you. You are no better than the people who danced on 9/11.
