Brotherhood spokesperson arrested over incitement claims Yasser Mehrez is being questioned by prosecutors over allegations that he incited violence against the police and army
A Muslim Brotherhood spokesperson has been detained over allegations that he incited violence against police and army personnel, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported. Prosecutors in Sixth October City ordered that Yasser Mehrez be detained for a further 24 hours so more evidence can be collected. Mehrez allegedly incited violent acts against police and army targets in Cairo and Giza. He will also be questioned about recent bombings against police and army targets. More than 500 people -- mostly policemen and soldiers -- have been killed in bombings and shootings by militants since July 2013. Most attacks have been in the restive Sinai Peninsula, but in recent months a number have taken place in the Nile Delta and Cairo. The authorities blame the Muslim Brotherhood for the attacks and have blacklisted it as a terrorist organisation. The group repeatedly denied involvement in violence. Meanwhile, clashes on Friday between supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi and security forces left two civilians dead. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/99819.aspx
