Security forces defused a bomb found beside the Virgin Mary church in Giza's Al-Saff district on Sunday, the day of a significant Christian holiday, according to Al-Ahram's Arabic news website.
Police are currently searching the area for other explosives.
Thousands of Egyptian Christians are celebrating Palm Sunday.
Minor bombing attempts have become frequent following the army's ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July amid nationwidemass protests against his rule.
Morsi's ouster was also followed bya spike in militant attacks targeting mainly police and army troops.
