Ahly hoping Burkinabe Yadan can offer much-needed creativity Moussa Yedan helped Ahly to an Egyptian Premier League win over El-Entag El-Harby on Thursday with a stunning volley
Egypt's Ahly are hoping that Moussa Yedan will prove a reliable replacement for former playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika after the Burkina Faso deep-lying forward offered glimpses of his talent in an Egyptian Premier League victory on Thursday. The 24-year-old, who left Cameroon's Coton Sport to join the Cairo giants late last year on a four-and-a-half year deal, gave his side a 2-1 lead over El-Entag El-Harby with a stunning second-half volley. He neatly exchanged passes with promising striker Amr Gamal before thumping in a powerful first-timer from a tight angle that left the keeper with no chance. “One of the great advantages of tonight's win is Yedan's display. He showed that he is very skillful,” Ahly coach Mohamed Youssef said following the win. “He will be a valuable asset in the coming period, and the goal he scored against El-Entag will motivate him to establish himself.” Ahly have been struggling to unlock opposing backlines since the retirement of club icon Abou-Treika, who hung up his boots following the Red Devils' poor showing at the Club World Cup in December. Playmaker Abdallah El-Said, who was deemed Abou-Treika's natural replacement, is criticised for some below-par displays, having failed to produce the kind of defence-splitting passes the former Ahly schemer used to execute during a glorious nine-year reign for the eight-time African champions. Yedan has also created Ahly's third goal against El-Entag, sending in a low cross that found the unmarked El-Sayed Hamdi for an easy tap-in. “I'm very happy with my first goal. I hope I can live up to expectations,” Yedan said on Ahly's official website.
