The 'presidential palaces' trial of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak has been adjourned until 19 March. The trial resumed on Wednesday after four new defendants were included in the case, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported. Mubarak, his sons Gamal and Alaa, and four others are accused of embezzling LE125 million ($17.9 million) allocated for the renovation of presidential palaces. The new defendants are Magda Hassan and Abdel-Hakim Mansour, employees at the Arab Contractors company, and Amr Khedr and Mohei El-Din Abdel-Hakim, engineers employed by the presidency. They are accused of facilitating the seizure of public funds for the Mubarak family. In the trial's first session in August, the court referred the case back to the prosecutor-general so the new defendants could be indicted. Mubarak and his two sons also face a separate corruption trial and a retrial for the killing of protesters during the January 2011 uprising. Hosni Mubarak was released from custody in August after exceeding the maximum two-year detention period pending conclusion of trial, but Gamal and Alaa remain in jail.
