Brahms at Cairo Opera House
On 2 April, Cairo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Hisham Gabr, will perform works by one of the most important German classical music composers: Johannes Brahms
Published in Ahram Online on 27 - 03 - 2011

Brahms in his own words:
"It is not hard to compose, but it is wonderfully hard to let the superfluous notes fall under the table."
Johannes Brahms - one of the few music geniuses - was born in 1833.
Cairo Symphony Orchestra will perform two works by the composer: Concerto in A minor for Violin, Cello and Orchestra, Op 102 "Double" and Symphony No.3 in F Major, Op. 90
The concert entitled "An Evening with Brahms" comes almost 114 years after his death, on April 3 1897, shortly after the death of his close friend and love of his life Clara Schumann, who in fact was the wife of Robert Schumann.
Brahms was one of the most important German composers of the Romantic era. He left many music masterpieces behind, and even though he wrote only four symphonies, he is primarily knownas a great symphonic composer.
Brahms composed the Symphony No. 3 in F major, Op. 90 in the summer of 1883 and it was first performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra inthe same year, conducted by Hans Richter. This great workwas received withhuge success and continues to be one of the concert halls favourites.
Concerto in A minor for Violin, Cello and Orchestra, Op 102 "Double" will feature two soloists: Basma Abdel Rahim (violin) and Kamel Salah El Din (cello).
We can still recall one of the most significant eveningsfor the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, when Gabr conducted Brahms' Symphony no. 1 (back in 2008).
On 2 April, "An Evening with Brahms" conducted by Hisham Gabr, promises to be a special eveningfor all music lovers.
Saturday, 2 April at 8pm, Cairo Opera House Main Hall
