Pro-Morsi protest at constitutional court in South Cairo Tens of supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi protest his trial at the Supreme Constitutional Court HQ in southern Cairo as security tightens in the capital
Around 300 supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi are protesting in front of the Supreme Constitutional Court headquarters in Maadi, south of the capital as Morsi's trial is set to start on Monday morning. The protest hindered traffic at the main road connecting Cairo's upscale district to the capital's downtown. Elsewhere, Cairo's streets have been relatively empty for an otherwise busy Monday. Security concerns had been raised in the past few days in anticipation pro-Morsi protests may spiral into clashes with security forces on the first day of the trial of the deposed president. Security forces have closed off Tahrir Square in downtown and the Rabaa El-Adawiya Square east of Cairo, a large sit-in in support of Morsi was violently dispersed last August, to prevent protests. Checkpoints and armoured police vehicles have been deployed in both areas and additional forces were stationed at government buildings, embassies, churches, banks and other facilities. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/85560.aspx
