Egypt's constitution committee approved 50 articles: Committee spokesman
Committee spokesman Mohamed Selmawi will hold a conference on Sunday to announce the latest on the constitution

Egypt's constitutional-amendment committee has approved 50 articles, committee spokesman Mohamed Selmawi said in a statement reported by state news agency MENA, as the 50-member body nears completing the final draft of the national charter.
Selmawi said on Saturday that the approved articles have been sent to the 10-member committee of judicial and constitutional experts for review before they are officially adopted by the 50-member body.
He added that the approved articles include legislation on rights and freedoms, most significantly the right to protest, which the constitution stipulates only needs prior notice.
This is in contrast to a controversial draft protest law, prepared by the government and pending the President's approval, which critics have said puts excessive limitations on organising public demonstrations.
Selmawi is expected to hold a press conference following a committee meeting on Sunday to announce the latest on the committee's work.
Egypt's 2012 constitution, originally drafted by an Islamist-dominated constituent assembly, was suspended pending amendments in July, when the army deposed president Mohamed Morsi amid mass protests against him.
A 10-member panel of judicial experts, currently reviewing the latest draft of the constitution, was tasked with making early suggestions to the new charter, before it went to the 50-committee for discussion and amendment.
The amended constitution will be presented to interim President Adly Mansour in early December for approval and will then be subject to a national referendum.
