Why Culture: Short video competition seeks submissions
Filmmakers, animators and video artists are invited to submit two-minute videos to Arab Fund for Arts and Culture's 'Why Culture?' competition
Published in Ahram Online on 07 - 10 - 2013

The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) is calling for 1-minute video submissions to its ‘Why Culture? Video Competition,' that would deliver an answer to why culture matters.
The competition, open to professional filmmakers, animators, video artists as well as to the general public, is phase two in AFAC's "Why Culture?" campaign.
The first phase of the campaign, which took place in Spring 2013, was a poster design competition, challenging both professionals and amateurs to answer the "Why Culture?" question in visual designs and slogans.
On 14 June, AFAC announced two winners for it's poster design competition; Bouchahed Mohammed Amin from Algeria was awarded the online Voter's Selection and Ibrahim Brimo from Syria won the AFAC Selection.
Projects submitted to the video competition will compete for two awards; the Voter's Selection Award and The AFAC Selection Award. Videos shot using anything from professional to smartphone cameras will be accepted, so long as they do not exceed two minutes. Arabic language must be used in the videos submitted.
The deadline for submission is 22 November. On 27 November, ten submissions will go live on AFAC's social media platforms, and the audience will vote for their favorite films until 4 December. The two winners will be announced on 5 December, and will each be awarded $1,000, and will be invited to attend an AFAC-organized event.
