Ghana have booked their place in the playoff of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers after beating visitors Zambia 2-1 on Friday. An 18th-minute goal by Abdul Majeed Waris gave the hosts an early lead before Kwadwo Asamoah doubled their advantage just after the hour mark to give Ghana a precious home win over Zambia, who were in a must-win situation to advance to the final round. Zambia pulled one back through a 72nd-minute goal fromNathan Sinkala but they could not go any further. Ghana's starting lineup witnessed the return of stars Michael Essien and Andre Ayew, who returned after a long absence to help the team avoid any upset against the 2012 African Cup of Nations winners. The duo's inclusion added depth to an already strong 26-man squad named by coach Kwesi Appiah for the home tie in Kumasi. Ghana have won their group with 15 points while Zambia finished second with 11 points. Sudan are set to host Lesotho in the final Group D game on Sunday. Both sides have two points.
