8 killed in army Apache attack on Sinai 'militant sites' In the latest development in the government's "war on terrorism", military airplanes strike alleged arms depots in Sinai
Eight Islamist militants were killed in Sinai on Tuesday and 15 injured in an attack by military Apache helicopters on areas deemed to be sites used by anti-government militants, Egyptian news agency MENA reported. Four Apache helicopters fired at several areas in north Sinai, including Al-Thoma, Al-Mahdeya and Al-Moqata'a, reportedly targeting arms depots. Egyptian army and police forces have been staging attacks on what they say are "terrorist" sites of suspected Islamist militants in the peninsula. Since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi on 3 July, militants have staged repeated attacks on military and police sites, killing dozens of forces. Egyptian security forces said on Saturday they arrested a top wanted militant in Sinai suspected of killing 25 off-duty policemen in one of the restive area's deadliest attacks. Armed Forces' Sinai operations resulted in the death of tens of suspected militants and the arrest of at least 250 others. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/80682.aspx
