Zamalek to face Ismaily in warm-up for Egypt League final phase Having already qualified for Egyptian League's final phase, Ismaily and Zamalek will face off on Thursday in a largely meaningless affair
Following a three-week hiatus, the Egyptian Premier League will resume its activities on Thursday with a scheduled clash between Zamalek and Ismaily, who stand at first and second place respectively in Group B. Both teams qualified for the Egyptian League's final phase last month, when they secured their places in July's mini-tournament. Zamalek, Ismaily and Ahly – along with either ENPPI or Smouha – will play a mini-tournament to begin 3 July to determine the league champions. In light of Zamalek's qualification, White Knights coach Jorvan Vieira has decided to sideline the team's Egyptian international players from Thursday's scheduled match. Mahmoud Fathallah, Sabri Rahil, Ahmed Gaafar and Ahmed Eid have all been dropped from the squad for the upcoming clash with Ismaily. Winger Hazem Emam and team skipper Abdel-Wahed El-Sayed will also miss the game due to injuries. Zamalek are hoping to secure at least some Egyptian League victories with a view to boosting players' morale before the final phase. Just before the league's recent suspension, Zamalek suffered a surprising 2-0 loss to minnow Ittihad of Alexandria.
