Low-rank police officers shut down Agouza police station Entrances to police station have been chained as low-rank police officers demand better treatment from Ministry of Interior
Low-rank police officers shut down the Agouza police station on Wednesday following a dispute between a high-ranked and a low-ranked police officer. The dispute took place on Wednesday morning. "We were shocked that a high-ranked police officer physically attacked a lower-rank officer over a verbal argument," Saed El-Shahawy, president of a coalition of low-rank Giza police officers, told Ahram Arabic News Website. The lower-ranked police personnel then shut down the Agouza police station and chained the entrance in protest. Low-ranked police officers are routinely humiliated by their higher-rank counterparts, El-Shahawy elaborated. "We are sick of the mistreatment and the Ministry of Interior's unfulfilled promises," he added. The lockdown is not the first of its kind. A nation-wide police protest and lockdown took place last March as police demanded the sacking of Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim. The minister successfully quelled the protests and remains ministry head. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/73803.aspx
