Mountain climbing: Egypt's Samra breaks another record Mountaineer Omar Samra becomes the first Egyptian to complete the 7 summits challenge, climbing the world's highest mountains on every continent
The first Egyptian to climb Mount Everest, Omar Samra, broke another record by becomming the first Egyptian to complete the seven summits challenge; a climb of the highest mountains of seven continents. Samra planted the Egyptian flag on the highest point in North America, Mount Denali (at 20,320 feet above sea level), completing the seven summits. "Not only is Omar the first Egyptian to complete the 7 summits but this is also the World's first carbon neutral 7 summits expedition," Samra's official Twitter account reports. In Samra's second attempt to climb Denali, he reached the summit in 13 hours. His first attempt in April 2012 was thwarted by severe weather conditions. In May 2007 Samra succeeded in becoming the first Egyptian and the youngest Arab (then 29 years old) to climb Mount Everest.
