No Egyptian tourist injured in Istanbul clashes: MENA
Egypt's consulate in Istanbul calls on its citizens to avoid the vicinity of clashes, denies any Egyptian injured Friday

A source in the Egyptian consulate in Istanbul denied Saturday that an Egyptian woman was injured in Friday's clashes between protesters and police that left at least 100 injured.
Reuters quoted a member of the Istanbul Medical Chamber's board Friday, claiming that a 34-year-old Egyptian tourist was in critical condition after "being hit by a police gas canister in the crackdown on anti-government protests in Istanbul's central Taksim Square."
"The [Egyptian] consulate has called Turkish authorities who clarified that the injured woman was of a different Arabic nationality," added the source.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian consulate has called on all Egyptians in Istanbul to avoid Taksim Square and the areas that surround it, adding that the consulate headquarters will remain open 24 hours a day for Egyptian citizens.
Turkish police began at dawn Friday a crack down with heavy use of teargas in an attempt to disperse a four-day sit-in protestagainst a major construction project planned for Istanbul's iconic Taksim Square.
Protesters reject plans to replace a public park with a shopping complex.
