Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra to perform under Egyptian conductor's baton in Muscat

Welsh bass-baritone and Russian soprano join Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Nader Abbassi from Egypt to perform famous arias and songs from musicals on 7 April at the Royal Opera House, Muscat
The Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Nader Abbassi from Egypt, will be joined by Bryn Terfel, renowned Welsh bass-baritone, and Victoria Yastrebova, Russian soprano from the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.
The concert that will take place on Sunday, 7 April will include famous arias from L'elisir d'amore (The Elixir of Love) by Gaetano Donizetti, Il Trovatore (The troubadour) and Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi, La Bohème and Edgar by Giacomo Puccini, Tannhäuser and Das Rheingold(The Rhine Gold) by Richard Wagner etc.
The evening will also include songs from famous musicals such as: Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story and Mitch Leigh's Man of La Mancha.
According to the programme notes prepared by the Royal Opera House Muscat, "renowned Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel has been described by The Sunday Telegraph as 'a force of nature.' Terfel rose to prominence when he won the Lieder Prize in the 1989 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition and has since performed in all the great opera houses of the world. He is especially recognised for his portrayals of Figaro, Falstaff, Wotan, Méphistophélès, Don Giovanni and Leporello. In September 2011 Terfel joined Andrea Bocelli for an open-air concert at New York City's Central Park, where he performed for over 70,000 people."
Victoria Yastrebova is a principal soprano of the renowned Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. She is the prize winner of the International Moniuszko Vocalists' Competition in 2004 and at the VI International Rimsky-Korsakov Young Opera Singers' Competition, the same year.
Nader Abbassi is an Egyptian conductor with appearances in Egypt and other countries during prestigious festivals and on renowned stages. Between 2002 and 2011, Abbassi was artistic director and principal conductor of the Cairo Opera Orchestra and between 2009 and 2011 he was the first musical director and principal conductor for the newly-formed Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO). In July 2011, he was appointed artistic and musical director of KATARA Culture Foundation in Doha, Qatar.
Terfel and Yastrebova debuted as duo on 25 March in the region in a performance in Abu Dhabi.
Abbasi's upcoming international committments include also a concert with Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne, where he will be joined by cello soloist from Egypt, Hassan Moataz.
