Egypt expects 14 mn tourists by end of 2013: Minister
Egyptian tourism minister forecasts tourist numbers to rise by 21.7% by end of 2013 compared to last year, saying government will focus on beach attractions

Egypt is expected to see a rise of tourist numbers by end of 2013 to reach 14 million, generating some $12 billion, said Egyptian tourism minister Hisham Zazou on Monday.
In an interview with the Austrian magazine Society, Zazou added that the country's tourism sector saw a decline of 33 percent in 2011 compared to 2010. Meanwhile, the sector witnessed an upsurge of 17 percent in 2012 compared to the year before.
About 11.5 million tourists visited the country in 2012 and generated some $10 billion in revenues.
In 2010, tourism reached the prosperity's peak when an estimated 14.7 million tourists visited Egypt, generating $12.5 billion in revenues, official data showed.
Zazou told the Austrian magazine that the Egyptian government would concentrate on beach tourism, pointing out Egypt's live streaming channel project.
In February, the tourism ministry stated it would launch a live streaming channel to allow tourists to become aware of the security situation in Egypt and to promote the country as a safe tourist destination.
Accordingly, the ministry plans to provide large screens to different countries to show live images of Egypt.
