Art Alert: Egyptian Sinfonietta to give inaugural concert at Cairo Opera House The Egyptian Sinfonietta, conducted by Ahmed El-Saedi, will give its inaugural concert Monday, 7 January, with a programme including compositions by Mozart and Handel
On Monday, 7 January, the Egyptian Sinfonietta conducted by Ahmed El-Saedi will perform concert filled with Mozart's spirit. The evening will begin with Mozart's Overture to Cosi fan Tutte. The compositions following will include arias from Handel's Messiah arranged by Mozart as well as Mozart'sExsultate Jubilate K 165 and Serenata notturna in D Major K 239. The concert will conclude with Mozart's SymphonyNo 40 in G minor, KV 550. The soloist of the evening isValencian soprano Dolores Lahuerta. The Egyptian Sinfonietta is the child of the Egyptian Philharmonic Society (EPS), founded and managed by its conductor, Ahmed El-Saedi. Sinfonietta represents an expanded Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra formation, part of EPS. In February, the Sinfonietta will return with Valentine's spirit and a lighter programme: compositions by Manuel de Falla and Astor Piazzolla, with a guitarist from Moscow and Ines Abdel Dayem on the flute. The March concert will include Beethoven's concerto in D major (composed originally for violin but revised by the composer for piano). The Sinfonietta will give a few concerts before the season ends. In June 2013, the Egyptian Sinfonietta will go to Finland to take part in the Iitti Music Festival (11-16 June), held in the village of Iitti and focusing primarily on chamber music. Monday, 7 January, is the inaugural concert of the Egyptian Sinfonietta. The Sinfonietta planned to launch its activities on 9 December 2012 but due to political unrest the concert was cancelled, along with many other events scheduled at the Cairo Opera House at that time.
