Egyptian artists mourn composer Ammar El-Sherei
Egyptian artists from all fields paid their respect to renowned composer and musician Ammar El-Sherei's family at his funeral on Monday

Iconic Egyptian composer and musician Ammar El-Sherei died on Friday of heart complications. His funeral was on Monday night in Al-Rahman Al-Rehim mosque on Salah Salem Road in Cairo, and friends and celebrities came to pay their respect to his brothers Naguib and Ali El-Sherei.
The funeral was attended by Minister of Culture Saber Arab, councilor Adel Said, television head Shokry Abu Emeira, writer Bahaa Taher, and artists Adel Imam, Iman El-Bahr Darwish, Mohamed Heneidy, Ghada Ragab, Mohamed Mounir, Ali Badrakhan, Amr Selim, Anoushka, Dr. Reda Ragab, Selim Sahab, Amal Maher, Dina Abdallah, Farouk El-Fishawy, Ramy Adel Imam, Arkan Fouad, Gaber El-Beltagy, poet Mostafa Damrany, Mohsen Abdel-Aziz and Mohamed Abu Dawood, among others.
El-Sherei was born blind on 16 April 1948 in the village of Samalot, Upper Egypt. He studied music at school then attended a special school programme for the blind.
Composer, songwriter and performer El-Sherei dedicated his life to music and pursued his musical education throughout his life.
He played the piano, harp, accordion and the oud, focusing on the latter in recent years. He composed over 150 pieces for television and radio, including for the famous Raafat El-Hagan television series, starring Mahmoud Abdel Aziz.
