Breast Cancer Week educates Egypt on main cause for women's death
October is marked worldwide as the month of breast cancer awareness. This year, BCF of Egypt offers a range of events focusing on the value of exercise to fight the deadly disease

During the annual International Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, the Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt is urging women to learn more about breast cancer, early detection methods, and to pursue healthy lifestyles to reduce their risk of the disease.
According to GLOBOCAN statistics 2008, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among females and leading cause of death among cancers worldwide, accounting to 23 per cent of total cancer cases and 14 per cent of death cases.
In Egypt, the BCFE reported that the percentage of breast cancer among cancer cases among women accounts to 37.5 per cent.
The month of October 2012 witnesses a number of events organised by the Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt (BCFE) headed by Dr Mohamed Shaalan in partnership with international entities to fight breast cancer.
“October is the month for breast cancer awareness worldwide,” Dr. Mohamed Shaalan said, “so every October, there are campaigns held worldwide to raise awareness about the disease and to raise funds.”
“This year's BCFE events focus on sports and physical activities as studies have shown that they reduce a woman's risk of breast cancer. The aim of these events is to inspire people to fight breast cancer in Egypt. They can join the fight by spreading knowledge about the disease, encouraging their loved ones to get screened and donate to help underprivileged women get screening and proper treatment.”
"BCFE will have booths at Maadi City Center and Arkan mall. BCFE will also have a presence at Jazzercise fitness center's branches in Heliopolis and 6 of October."
“The earlier breast cancer is diagnosed, the greater the treatment options available – and the better the chance of survival.” said Dr. Shaalan.
“BCFE strives to provide the knowledge and services necessary for women to take charge of their health.”
