Botros Botros Ghali, former secretary general of the National Council for Human Rights, believes there needs to be foreign intermediacy as Egypt undergoes revolt and instability. In an interview independent TV station Dream 2 he added that with the regime holding onto power for another six months while opposition movements demand its immediate removal, the question now is how to find a middle ground. Ghali stated that it would be best to seek the United Nations'assistance to end the crisis. Ghali became the sixth secretary general of the UN on 1 January 1992. In September 1978, he attended the Camp David Summit Conference and had a role in negotiating the Camp David accords between Egypt and Israel, which were signed in 1979. In 1987 he became a member of the Egyptian Parliament and was part of the secretariat of the ruling National Democratic Party from 1980 until assuming his office at the UN.
