Safarkhan Gallery spreads the virus of art onto the street The petite art gallery in Zamalek that typically hosts modern and contemporary works presents in October 'The Virus is Spreading' an art show that uses the streets as its canvas
With The Virus is Spreading, the eclectic Safarkhan Gallery collaborates with popular young artist Ganzeer, best known for his street art, to change perceptions of the geography of art. The exhibition will create a rally between the Zamalek gallery space and the street, not restricting the location of the artwork to one place or the other. The Virus is Spreading carries undertones of political activism, usually associated with Ganzeer's murals and graffiti. Inspired by the seeds of hope that exist within Egyptian society, and disappointed by the dimming down of revolutionary fervor, the artist chooses to hope. Ganzeer does not deny that he sees signs of change, "Be it socially, politically, culturally, or artistically," his statement reads. "Which is why I have faith that the virus is spreading. And there's no stopping it."
